evening scripture

December 19, 2007

    “Sing, O barren woman,
       you who never bore a child;
       burst into song, shout for joy,
       you who were never in labor;
       because more are the children of the desolate woman
       than of her who has a husband,”
       says the LORD …

    “Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame.
       Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
       You will forget the shame of your youth
       and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.”

     — Isaiah, Isaiah 54

    this verse makes me feel – better – when I grapple with the realization that i don’t/can’t/have not had any kids. that and this article http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,317609,00.html.

    Couldn’t make it to the article you referenced. But I do agree: the amazing hope on display in this verse is pretty encouraging. (Almost a bit scandalous; unless you believe in a miracle-working-God. Only He could have the audacity to calm and cheer in the face of such dispair. Only if He could really make everything okay … however He might do that.)
